Man Convicted of Capital Murder in Arlington Shoe Store Slaying

Killer to spend life behind bars for Arlington murder

A North Texas man has been sentenced to life in prison for the 2014 murder of an Arlington shoe store manager killed during a robbery recorded on video.

Jacob Galen Everett, 22, was convicted Wednesday of capital murder in the death of 23-year-old Randy Pacheco.

Pacheco was working at a Red Wing Shoes store in an Arlington strip mall in Feb. 25, 2014 when he was gunned down during a robbery that netted about $200.

Investigators released edited surveillance video of a person wearing a hooded sweatshirt, carrying a gun and pointing as he walked around the store. The robber and store manager were paced by the manager's dog who was also at the store.

The unedited version, Arlington police said, showed the callous murder.

Surveillance video of Everett's truck, which he traded-in a week after the shooting, and dozens of other tips led to his eventual arrest by the Arlington Police Department.

Everett pleaded guilty to robbery, but denied killing Pacheco.

Though the charge against Everett was a capital murder charge, since Pacheco was murdered during the commission of another felony, prosecutors in Tarrant County did not seek the death penalty. Instead, Everett received an automatic life prison term without the chance for parole.

NBC 5 caught up with Pacheco's mother after the verdict.

“I feel peace but not completely happy because my son [will] never come back,” Genoveva Pacheco told NBC 5 about the verdict.

Red Wing Shoe Company is based in Minnesota.
