Police said they arrested 50-year-old Kenneth E. Baker after he called 911 Wednesday afternoon and told dispatchers that he suffocated his 85-year-old mother Tuesday night at a home in the 6900 block of Heritage Lane.

Officers who responded to the house found the body of Margaret Shelton, and a deceased dog was located in the garage that Baker also allegedly admitted to killing, police said.

The manner of the dog's death was unknown.

Baker was booked into the Mansfield jail on a murder charge and held on a $250,000 bond.
