Man Charged in Nursing Home Deaths to Get Attorney

A Houston nursing home resident accused of fatally beating two of his roommates with the armrest of his wheelchair will be given a court appointed attorney.

Guillermo Correa made his initial court appearance Monday during a brief hearing.

The 56-year-old is charged with capital murder for the April 22 deaths of 51-year-old Primitivo Lopez and 77-year-old Antonio Acosta. Correa appeared in court in a wheelchair and dressed in an orange inmate uniform.

Prosecutor Natalie Tise said Monday there had been problems between Correa and the victims.

Tise said a nurse who went into the men's room found blood spatter on the walls and ceiling. A trail of blood led nursing home staff to a waiting area where Correa was on the phone.
