Man Charged in Fatal Wreck on Loop 12: Irving Police

Irving police said they arrested a man after a wreck that left a woman dead and a man seriously injured Friday morning.

The driver was heading north on Loop 12 near Texas 183 at about 3:30 a.m. when the he started to change lanes and lost control, according to police. The vehicle flipped several times and landed on the Loop 12 frontage road.

Authorities said two passengers — a man and woman — were not wearing seat belts. The woman died at the scene. The man was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. 

The driver, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured. Police said they arrested and charged him with intoxication manslaughter.

Police did not release the identities of the people in the vehicle but said they appeared to be in their 20s or 30s.

As of 7 a.m., only one lane of northbound Loop 12 was open while a wrecker cleared the road. Crews cleared the wreckage and reopened the road by 8 a.m.
