Man Charged in Central Texas Police Chief's Death

A man accused of shooting dead the only police officer in a small Central Texas town has been charged with capital murder in the killing.

David Gene Risner was charged Friday in the fatal shooting of Lee Dixon, the police chief and only officer in Little River-Academy. He remains jailed without bond in the Bell County Jail in Belton.

Dixon had held the job for a month after holding the job previously in 2004-2005.

Bell County Sheriff's Lt. Donnie Adams says Dixon went to the scene of the call of a man with a gun about 5 p.m. Thursday. Shortly thereafter, the sheriff's dispatcher began receiving calls about shots fired and an officer down.

Jail records list no attorney for the 56-year-old suspected of the crime.
