Man Charged With Sexually Assaulting Woman: Garland Police

Garland police said they arrested a man accused of forcing his way into a woman's home and sexually assaulting her April 7.

Officers responded to a call about a break-in and sexual assault in the 3400 block of Valley View Lane at about 5 p.m., police said.

Police said the woman who called them said a man — known to her as Gerald — knocked on her door, forced his way inside and began physically assaulting and raping her. The woman was able to escape and call for help.

Officers searched the area and found a man fitting the woman's description in the 3200 block of Oak Hill Drive, according to police. Officers identified and arrested 30-year-old Gerald Hughes.

Hughes was taken to the Dallas County Jail and charged with burglary of a habitation and intent to commit sexual assault. His bond was set at $100,000.

The victim was transported to a nearby hospital where she was admitted and treated for her injuries.
