Man Arrested in Stolen San Antonio Police SUV Case

San Antonio police say a tip has led to the arrest of a vehicle theft suspect who was handcuffed but allegedly stole a patrol SUV.

Police Chief William McManus says 40-year-old Andrew Davila was recaptured Thursday at a residence.

Davila faces charges including evading arrest and theft of a vehicle.

Davila was initially arrested Monday driving a stolen truck. Police say Davila's hands were restrained behind his back but he managed to get the cuffs to the front of his body, slide through a window in a partition and reach the police SUV's front seat.

Officers were working the scene when Davila drove off. The patrol vehicle was tracked via GPS and found abandoned.

Online jail records Friday didn't list information on bond or an attorney for Davila.
