Teen Fatally Struck by Train

A teen boy was struck and killed by a train Thursday morning, railroad investigators said.

The teen was hit near the 2100 block of York Drive in south Fort Worth.

Investigators said the teen was a Hispanic male, but did not detail information on the victim's identity, saying his parents have not yet been notified.

According to Joe Faust, the director of public affairs for Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad, the incident occurred as the teen walked westbound on the railroad tracks while wearing a backpack and headphones.

BNSF said the train engineer was aware that the locomotive hit the teen and that the train is equipped with a camera that should have video of the incident.

Fort Worth Independent School District spokesman Clint Bond said the district believes the victim may have been a student at an area high school.

BNSF originally gave the victim's age as 14-years-old, however Fort Worth police described him as an 15 or 16-year-old. Other sources continued the variations on the victim's age, but all ages fit between the range students traditionally attend high school.

NBC 5 has crews on the way to the scene to gather more information.
