Major Road Closure Overnight in Collin County

Drivers in Collin County will be tapping the brakes overnight for a major road closure.

The Texas Department of Transportation plans to close lanes in both directions of U.S. Highway 75 between El Dorado Parkway and Virginia Avenue so crews can work on a bridge and install overhead signs.

The closures are scheduled from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., and traffic will be diverted onto frontage roads.

Hank's Texas Grill manager David Reynolds said sales are down by more than half at his business since construction on Highway 75 began four years ago.

"It's all but destroyed it. There really isn't any lunch crowd left. We're thankful that we can get some night business and hang on," Reynolds said.

Jessie Keathley is feeling the growing pains, too. She lives on a detour route between McKinney and Melissa. It's a gravel street she said few people used until recently. Now, the back road is seeing bumper-to-bumper traffic at times because of construction.

"It's been a real hassle," Keathley said. "I am so ready to see it end."

Construction on Highway 75 is broken up into several smaller projects, the first of which is scheduled to be completed around the turn of the new year.
