Lost, Abandoned Dogs Relocate to Northeast to Ease Overcrowding in Local Shelters

Dozens of lost and abandoned dogs from across North Texas are on the move to the Northeast in an effort to ease overcrowding in local animal shelters.

The Human Society of Flower Mound partnered with "Love on Wheels" to bring new chances for adoption to dogs in local shelters by sending them to organizations like the Helping Hounds Dog Rescue in DeWitt, New York.

"Animal shelters and rescues throughout the state are being overwhelmed by the influx of homeless pets," said Danielle Tate, Grand Prairie Animal Services Manager.

"Having partnerships and processes in place with these shelters made it possible for us to work quickly to open up space for them and give immediate transport."

Love on Wheels was created by a grant from the ASPCA, which also coordinated the transportation and assistance with the cross-country trek.
