Loan Officer Headed to Prison for Stealing Dead Mother's Identity

A former loan officer who stole the identities of her father-in-law and dead mother for financial gain has been sentenced to more than five years in prison.

A federal judge in Sherman on Tuesday sentenced Lynetta Mae Washington of Denton in the wire fraud and ID theft scheme. Washington, who previously lived in the Austin area, must also repay more than $407,000.

Washington last November pleaded guilty to wire fraud, misuse of a Social Security number and two counts of making false claims.

Prosecutors said Washington filed false income tax returns in 2006 to seek nearly $6,000 in refunds.

She renewed her Texas loan officer license using her mother's Social Security number.

Washington worked for various financial companies from 2006 to 2009 and provided fictitious information to get a loan.
