Although most of Thursday's near-record snowfall has melted, lingering ice is still causing problems in North Texas Friday morning.

Schools Delayed

Five North Texas school districts announced delayed starts Friday because of refreezing precipitation on roads.

Wrecks

Dallas police reported 29 wrecks between midnight and 5 a.m. Friday.

Texas Department of Transportation officials said they de-iced most of the major highways in DFW. They said they cover outside lanes first and then finish the rest, so there might still be some problems.

Multiple wrecks were caused by ice on Interstate 35E near Royal Lane, according to police. Authorities also reported ice on northbound U.S. Highway 75 near Woodall Rodgers Freeway.

Potholes

The winter weather also left a fresh batch of potholes in parts of North Texas.

A large pothole on southbound Interstate 35W near Northeast 28th Street created delays Friday morning.

A pothole on westbound U.S. 175 just before Second Avenue and Burton Road caused delays Friday morning as well.

Another pothole on Texas 183 in Irving was so large that police had to shut down a lane of the freeway Thursday. Crews filled the pothole overnight, but officials warned drivers to keep an eye out for more.

TxDOT officials said they hadn't received any reports of major potholes and were working to fix the ones that had been reported.
