Light Pole Crashes Down, Kills Driver in Dallas

One person was killed after a light pole fell down onto the Dallas North Tollway following a separate crash, police said Sunday.

It happened on the Dallas North Tollway near Northwest Highway at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday.

According to Department of Public Safety spokesman Lonny Haschel, a car was traveling north on the tollway when, for an undetermined reason, it veered onto the shoulder, striking a light pole.

As the light pole was falling, it struck a Subaru BRZ passenger car, killing the driver. That driver has been identified as 28-year-old Ammar Zaidi.

At least four other vehicles struck the pole and debris on the roadway. No one else was injured, Haschel said in a statement.

Northbound lanes of the tollway were closed overnight as crews investigated the scene. The investigation was ongoing Sunday.
