Lewisville Police Seek Help in Fatal Hit and Run Investigation

Investigators hope a broken headlight will be the clue that leads them to a suspect in a deadly hit and run along Interstate 35E.[[289372131,L]]

On Saturday morning at about 12:30 a.m., officers responded to a call of a body along the side of the interstate at the Fox Avenue bridge in Lewisville.

The victim has been identified as 40-year-old Kevin Coon of Lewisville and police say they believe he died from being hit by a vehicle.

While it’s unknown why Coon was on foot on that portion of the interstate, police say the driver of the car broke the law by not stopping to render aid after hitting him.

However, finding that driver could be challenging.

"Normally at least somebody sees it and stops, but in this case, no one we're aware of has seen it,” said Captain Dan Rochelle from the Lewisville Police Department.

At this point, officers have been unable to find any witnesses to the hit and run nor any video footage of the incident.

About the only evidence they located were pieces of a bloody headlight at the scene of the accident.

Rochelle said the pieces don’t have any identifiable markings, but he hopes it could lead to a break in the case.

"It's going to have front end damage, it's going to have a broken headlight and so that's what we're looking for,” said Rochelle.

Officers are asking residents to keep a look out for a vehicle with a broken headlight and fresh front-end damage. They ask anyone who sees something, or anyone who witnessed the incident and hasn’t come forward, to contact them right away.
