Lewisville Mother Searches for Hit-and-Run Driver

Jamie McCafferty suffers from road rash on much of her body after crashing into an SUV that cut her off on her motorcycle along Interstate 35 in Lewisville and left the scene.

β€œI can’t believe that she left me lying there like that,” said McCafferty, who is unable to move from her bed for at least 10 days, according to doctors.

According to a police report, McCafferty was traveling on her motorcycle in the far right lane of I-35 near Business Loop 121 around 7:30 p.m. last Thursday.

Police say the female driver of a silver SUV crossed all lanes of traffic to make the exit and crossed right into McCafferty's path.

β€œI just remember I had zero thoughts except, β€˜Please no.’ I knew it was going to be bad because we were at highway speeds,” McCafferty said.

She crashed into the SUV and skidded down the highway. Witnesses stayed with her until help arrived while the driver of the SUV took off.

β€œThat vehicle fled the scene. They didn't stop to check on her or anything,” said Capt. Dan Rochelle with Lewisville police.

β€œI get another chance, when it could have been over. In that very split second, it could have all been over for me,” said McCafferty.

Pictures from the hospital detail her painful injuries, which have kept her from returning to work and caring for her two young children.

Witnesses told police the silver SUV may have damage on its passenger side, and police are asking the public for information that will lead to the hit-and-run driver.

β€œShe has a mess that she has to clean up. I’m not even not allowed out of this bed for 10 days and I have two kids to think about,” said McCafferty. β€œEven if it's nothing more than an apology, just take responsibility for your actions.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the hit-and-run investigators at the Lewisville Police Department.
