Lawyer Leaves Board of Cancer-Fighting Agency

A Dallas lawyer has resigned from the board of the state's troubled $3 billion cancer-fighting agency as he prepares for a new job.

The Dallas Morning News reports Tom Luce has left the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas.  Luce on Monday will become chief operating officer of the O'Donnell Foundation, which supports scientific research and education.

Luce on Thursday announced his resignation from the CPRIT oversight committee. He cited his new job and duties as chairman of the board of the National Math and Science Initiative.

Gov. Rick Perry last week authorized funding of more than two dozen grants previously frozen amid accusations of improper spending. The institute since December has had a funding moratorium but will be allowed to finalize 25 awards not under suspicion.
