Laredo Man Gets 45 Years in Fatal Stabbing of His Father

Prosecutors say a South Texas man must serve 45 years in prison for the fatal stabbing of his father during an apparent fight over being locked out of a home.

Victor Almanza-Alvarado Jr. of Laredo was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to murder in a plea deal. The 37-year-old son was charged in the 2014 death of Victor Almanza-Medrano.

Laredo police were dispatched on a report of a possible auto-pedestrian accident when they found the 56-year-old father stabbed to death. Investigators have said Almanza-Medrano and a woman apparently were locked out of his home, so he called his son to come and let them in.

Police say the son was upset about having to travel to the residence. Almanza-Alvarado fled following the attack but was arrested a short time later.
