Karen Jacobs knew she wouldn’t be an overnight millionaire.
She and her husband signed a gas lease with Chesapeake Energy Corp. thinking a little extra cash would be, well, rather nice.
“We just own an acre here,” Jacobs said recently at her home near Joshua, south of Fort Worth. “We thought, ‘Whatever we get.’”
And it was nice, for a while. Until the checks dropped dramatically a few years ago.
