Lakes, Ramps Reopen in Time for Labor Day

Many North Texans are spending Labor Day on the water.

Many boat ramps at local lakes just re-opened within the last few days. High water levels forced those lakes to stay closed for most of the summer.

The Lynn Creek Marina boat ramps at Joe Pool Lake had been closed for months; but they finally re-opened at the start of the Labor Day holiday weekend.

The Silva family from Grand Prairie said they were waiting for that moment all summer long.

“It was real frustrating. It was real frustrating. We like to fish and sometimes they wouldn’t even let us fish because they said it was dangerous,” said Frank Silva. “I’m just really glad they opened the lake this weekend.”

The lake water levels are finally starting to drop after historic spring flooding in May.

“I feel great. We’re ready to get on the water and have a good time,” said Craig Giere. He said he traveled to Lake Murray, Oklahoma with his Jet-Ski for much of the summer.

"It’s been an odd summer,” Murray said. “It was terrible. We had to drive 300 miles to Oklahoma to have some real good fun.”

Christian Silva, 9, is ready for good fun today as well.

“Swimming, having fun, having fun with my dad and my family,” he said.

The popular Oasis Restaurant at Joe Pool Lake is still closed because of flood damage. They hope to re-open in about two weeks.
