Lake Highlands Neighborhood Shocked by Homicide

Relative found man dead in his apartment Tuesday morning

Neighbors in a Lake Highlands community are on edge after hearing a man was found murdered inside his home.

52-year-old William Dale Martin was found dead inside his apartment on Tuesday morning. Neighbors say a relative was coming to pick him up for breakfast when his body was discovered.

The Dallas County Medical Examiner ruled his death a homicide and said he suffered sharp injuries to his face, neck and arms.

Martin's neighbor, Rita Barnes, says he was the type of guy who struck up a conversation with everyone around him. She last saw and spoke with Martin on Sunday.

“We didn’t talk about anything important, just, 'hey, how are you?'” Barnes said.

Another neighbor, Frederick Scott, says the neighbors are shaken up after hearing of his death.

“When they said, 'Dale, someone killed him,' that was a big shock. He doesn’t bother anyone,” said Scott.

Police say robbery may be a possible motive as several items were stolen from his apartment. Investigators did not elaborate on what those items were.
