LGBT Church Reopens After Bomb Scare Cleared

A church in Dallas was evacuated Sunday morning after suspicious suitcases were found

A predominately LGBT church was closed for several hours Sunday morning after a bomb scare forced churchgoers to evacuate around 8:05 a.m.

Two carry-on bags and a suitcase were found on the grounds of Dallas' Cathedral of Hope at 7 a.m. Sunday, exactly one week after the attack on an Orlando nightclub.  While a bomb squad was on the scene investigating the "suspicious" bags, the church held serves outside, with congregants gathered under trees.

The church was reopened in time for its 11 a.m. services after the area was cleared.

The church pastor said there are a lot of homeless people would who live in the area and the bags may have been related to them.

The Cathedral of Hope church thanked the Dallas Police Department in a Facebook post for doing everything to "ensure the safety of our community and church family."

"This will not deter us from worship this morning and we will continue to not walk in fear or allow instances of hate to overcome the promise to love," the church wrote.

"We will continue to not walk in fear or allow instances of hate to overcome the promise to love," the Cathedral of Hope Facebook page said.
