Police: Kind Man Killed by Former Neighbor
Duncanville man's wife watches in horror as her husband is murdered.
Joe Moore's kindness may have gotten him killed.
The 76-year-old Duncanville man opened the door for a former neighbor who claimed he was thirsty. As Moore's wife went to get water for the man, he jumped her husband, stabbing him to death. Though some items are missing from the home, police are not convinced robbery was the motive.
"I was devastated, I used to talk to him all the time," said Moore's neighbor Mark Sileck. Sileck said Moore was the kind of guy who was always there with a smile.
"They're torn up, but we are a strong family," said Moore's son-in-law John Lambert. He said the family is thankful that police arrested a suspect.
Police are crediting the victim's wife and the information she provided investigators as the sole reason they were able to capture their suspect. Somehow, following the trauma of watching someone murder her husband, Moore's wife recalled every detail of the murder for investigators.
"She was real upset but held it together so she could give investigators all the answers they needed to what was going on and who did it," said Officer Mark Sileck of the Duncanville Police Dept.
Police are not releasing the suspect's name because they say he may be connected to other area crimes and they don't want to taint those investigation.
He is being held on a $1 million bond.
