The family of embattled former mayor of Detroit Kwame Kilpatrick has moved out of their tony digs in Southlake to a much more modest property in south Grand Prairie, according to the Detroit News.

With the move, the Kilpatrick family, minus Dad, who is in prison for hiding assets, is out of their $1 million Southlake home and into a more manageable $235,000 home in the Mira Lagos neighborhood of South Grand Prairie.

The family of convicted former Detriot mayor Kwame Kilpatrick has moved from a $1 million home in Southlake to a $235,000 rental home in Grand Prairie.

According to the report in the Detroit paper, the Kilpatrick's paid $74,000 for a 13-month lease at the Southlake address, or about $5,700 per month. The house in Grand Prairie was listed at only $2,100 per month.

Kilpatrick's wife, Carlita, and their three sons Jelani, Jalil and Jonas, made the move about two weeks ago.  NBC DFW's Ken Kalthoff called Carlita to ask about the move, but she isn't speaking with the media.

"I'm not going to answer any questions. I would like that you never call my phone again," said Carlita Kilpatrick.

Kilpatrick was sentenced to up to five years in state prison, but was transferred to the federal prison after being arraigned on nine counts of federal fraud and income tax violations.

The earliest Kilpatrick may see parole is July 24, 2011.
