Fort Worth police have filed charges of aggravated kidnapping against Kimberly Smith.
Smith sparked a multi-state Amber Alert last week after she left the state with her daughter Jessica. She is accused of trying to smother her daughter on the day the two disappeared.
The Tarrant County District Attorney's Office said she intended to hurt or terrorize the child. The two were found in New Mexico, with Jessica unharmed, several days later.
Smith is currently being held in a New Mexico jail. If convicted, she could be sentenced to life in prison.
