Kaboom Town Fills Up Early, People Turned Away

Addison’s Kaboom Town fireworks show proved to be more popular than ever before in its 30 years of lighting up the skies over North Texas.

An anticipated, crowds of more than 500,000 packed into the area in and around Addison Circle Park Friday night to enjoy the most award-winning fireworks show in the area.

However, the gates to Addison Circle Park had to be closed around 7 p.m. when the park reached its capacity of approximately 50,000 people.

“The gates are closed and it’s full. There’s not much else I can tell them,” said Mindy Green, of Dallas, about her three young children who had hoped to ride the carnival rides inside of the park, in addition to getting a front row seat to the fireworks display.

“They’re pretty disappointed. They were looking forward to it even more than I was,” Green said of her kids.

Still, tens of thousands arrived as early as Friday morning to ensure the perfect spot for the show.

People like the Vaerewyck family from Frisco planned ahead, and were easy to spot on the grass in front of the main stage.

“Because we have the most food! The biggest spread,” said Jennifer Vaerewyck, about her selection of fresh cut fruit, potato salad and fried chicken laid out for friends and family members.

“We had a lot of food, so we had to have a little table,” Vaerewyck said of the plastic folding table she used to set out her smorgasbord. “We’re lucky they let us bring it in.”
