A turtle, not of the snapping variety, has been stolen from a Houston-area pet store by a man who shoved the reptile into his pants pocket, a pet store owner said.
The theft of the $600 Indian star tortoise, about the size of a tennis ball, from Pet City in Spring was captured on security video.
Pet City owner Sherry Stack told KHOU-TV that she has been in business 20 years and "never had a customer shove a turtle in his pants."
The young man, wearing jeans, a T-shirt and a baseball-style cap, was seen on store video Wednesday prying open a cabinet, then slipping the turtle into his left pocket.
The thief drove away in a white pickup.
"We just want our tortoise home," Stack said.
