Irving Home Explodes, Injuring Man

Fire investigators are looking into how an Irving house exploded on Sunday afternoon.

Neighbors said the explosion in the 2600 block of Syracuse shook the neighborhood just after 2 p.m.

One person, believed to be the homeowner, was inside the home at the time of the blast. He was taken to a hospital with burns. There was no immediate word on his condition.

People in the neighborhood said they heard a loud explosion and then saw flames.

Rebecca Luttrell, a 10-year-old girl who lives at the house, said she heard the blast from a home next door.

"I was at my neighbor's house next door playing, and I just heard a loud boom and the whole house shook," she said.

Neighbor Alfonso Gonzalez said he didn't know at first what the blast was.

"I thought somebody had run into my house because it shook my house so bad I thought someone had crashed into my house," he said.

Fire investigators are looking into the cause of the explosion.
