In a Disaster, These Guys Will Still Have Starbucks Coffee

Modern survivalists are readying themselves for anything

How much food and deodorant do you have stashed away?

Some North Texans are stockpiling necessities -- just in case, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.

Mind you, these aren't folks hunkering down in bunkers in the wilderness, waiting for nuclear disaster. Instead, think of them as just being ready for anything.

"Modern survivalists" or "preppers" are making sure they can survive a disaster, whether a natural, economic or man-made one, according to the Star-Telegram.

They are regular joes with jobs, families and even suburban homes.

Or, as Jack Spirko told the newspaper, "We just understand that, sometimes, stuff goes wrong."

Spirko, an Arlington resident who owns a media company in Frisco, even records a daily podcast for modern survivalists.

He has expanded his garden and stockpiles food, water, gas, ammunition, Starbucks coffee and deodorant, the Star-Telegram said.

"People are always waiting for someone else to come and help them," Spirko told the newspaper. "To me, survivalism is just waking back up to traditional American values."
