IKEA Submits Plans for Grand Prairie Store

IKEA officials announced they will submit plans to the City of Grand Prairie to build their second North Texas store.

Pending approval, construction of Swedish company's Grand Prairie store could begin by summer 2016 and open in fall 2017. The 293,000-square-foot proposed store would be built on 32 acres along the eastern side of Texas 161 near Mayfield Road.

“We are thrilled with the reception afforded us after entering North Texas more than 10 years ago, so we are excited to submit plans for IKEA Grand Prairie to extend our Dallas-area reach,” IKEA U.S. President Lars Petersson said. "This proposed store would complement our Metroplex presence established in Frisco and bring the unique family-friendly shopping experience closer to customers in other parts of the Dallas-Fort Worth area.”

IKEA also will evaluate on-site power generation to complement its renewable energy presence at nearly 90 percent of its U.S. locations.

In addition to the more than 500 jobs that could be created during construction, more than 300 jobs would become available when the store opens. The store would provide annual sales and property tax revenue for local governments and schools.
