‘I Just Hears Shots Everywhere': The Night of the Dallas Police Ambush, Through Our Journalists' Eyes

On July 7, 2016, a peaceful protest in downtown Dallas turned deadly when a shooter unconnected to the rally opened fire, targeting police officers. Five officers died and nine officers and two civilians were injured. Police killed the gunman, Micah Johnson, by detonating a bomb in the area of El Centro College where he was hiding.

The Dallas Morning News' reporters and photographers were at the rally when shots rang out at 8:58 p.m. They immediately began to tell the story on dallasnews.com, Twitter and Facebook Live.
