Interstate 35 North of Texas-Oklahoma Border Down to One Lane Monday

Driving north to Oklahoma City may take a little longer on Monday.

Northbound Interstate 35 through the Arbuckle Mountains will narrow to one lane near Turner Falls for the final phase to stabilize the June rock slide.

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation said the work is scheduled between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The northbound I-35 shoulder will stay closed through early November.

ODOT contractors will install several rock bolts to anchor the rock face and hopefully prevent future slides. A small section of fencing will also be installed on the mountain as a precaution.

A June 18 rock slide caused by downpours from Tropical Depression Bill temporarily closed four miles of I-35 between North Texas and Oklahoma City.
.
In July, Oklahoma crews blasted boulders along I-35 and hauled about 14,000 tons of fallen rock to a quarry to be weighed and crushed.
