Husband Turns Himself in After Wife is Shot to Death

A North Texas man has surrendered in Kansas on accusations that he shot his estranged wife.

Devanne Jones, 36, was being held Monday morning in the Sumner County, Kan., jail, about 35 miles south of Wichita.

Police in Arlington said Jones and his estranged wife, 35-year-old Latoya Alexander, got into an argument in the driveway of a home on Juniper Drive at about 1 a.m. Sunday.

Authorities said the fight escalated and ended with Jones fatally shooting Alexander and fleeing to Kansas.

Jones turned himself in later Sunday in Sumner County, about 350 miles north of Arlington. He was being held on a murder warrant and $500,000 bond.

Late Sunday night, neighbors near the crime scene were in disbelief over what happened.

“I was awoken by the 'bang, bang, bang.' The cops came then and there," said Carli Ficke. “I didn't register they were gunshots right away and I didn't think something like murder would take place, especially across the street.”

Ficke watched as police investigated the scene, took statements from her father and other neighbors.

“I saw the car roll back, still moving and that’s when it kind of like, hit our curb,” she said.

Ficke told us she had a hard time falling asleep and has been thinking about it all day.

“I can’t get it out of my mind,” she said.

The Ficke family said there have been arguments at that home in the past and that they believe the couple had at least a couple of teenage children.
