Hundreds of UTA Diplomas Misprinted With “2045” Instead of “2015”

Most members of the UT-Arlington Class of 2045 won’t be born for another eight years. That’s why hundreds of 2015 UTA graduates were surprised when they received their diplomas and saw "2045" printed on them.

UTA says Jostens, the third party company it uses to print all of its diplomas, is responsible for the misprint.

A university spokesperson tells NBC 5 most of the diplomas that were sent to students did have the correct date and it appears the typo was limited to diplomas given to graduates of the Liberal Arts College.

Although graduation was back in May, the misprint is only now coming to light because graduates don’t receive their diplomas until six to eight weeks after the ceremony. That gives the university time to post final grades and complete any graduation audits.

Amanda Kent, who graduated with a degree in Broadcasting, was one of the students who received a misprinted diploma. She posted a picture of it to Twitter with the caption, “Well the excitement of getting my diploma is gone now. I didn’t know I could time travel. 2045?”

She said she received an email acknowledging the misprint and about a week later, a corrected diploma came in the mail.

A spokesperson for Jostens says all replacement diplomas were shipped out for delivery last week.
