Houston Man Pleads Guilty to Threatening Synagogue

A Houston man faces up to 30 years in prison for calling in a fake bomb threat to a synagogue.

Prosecutors in Houston say 33-year-old Dante Phearse pleaded guilty Monday to a civil rights violation by threatening to bomb a synagogue and by making a telephone bomb threat.

A caller last April left a threatening voice message at Congregation Beth Israel in Houston, saying the religious center would be bombed the following month. Prosecutors say the message referred to minorities, terrorists and Satanic groups.

Phearse, who'll be sentenced this summer, faces up to 20 years in prison for the civil rights violation and a maximum 10 years for making bomb threats over the phone.
