Austin police are investigating the collision before dawn Sunday of the boat and a barge.

Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services spokesman Mike Benavides tells the Austin American Statesman 50-year-old Maxxam Inc. CEO Shawn Hurwitz was pronounced dead about an hour after the crash.

A woman was the other fatality and three others aboard the craft were hurt.  The name of the female victim hasn't been released yet.

Hurwitz in 2007 replaced his father, Charles Hurwitz, as CEO of Maxxam, a forest products and real estate development company. The firm also is part owner of Houston's Sam Houston Race Park.
