Haven’s Horses in Fort Worth has served the special needs community of North Texas for decades, but financial limitations may cause the horse therapy program to close.
The program’s organizers say the financial obligation of running Haven’s Horses has become too much for their parent organization.
The nonprofit group, Apache’s Angels, has stepped in to help, but program leaders say donations are still needed.
“With your help, we are confident we can reach our $45,000 urgent funding goal and continue the tradition of excellence we have cultivated,” Haven’s Horses director Celena Salinas said in an online appeal.
Parents say horse therapy programs are vanishing and becoming increasing more difficulty to find in North Texas. They say the benefit is extraordinary and children see major therapy and quality of life breakthroughs thanks to the horses and staff.
"Like I told [my daughter] today, this could be your last ride," Pat Haigler said as her daughter rode in the distance. "I don't think that she understands that could be the reality."
