Homeless Man Fatally Stabs Another in Tent City: Dallas Police

Police said they arrested a 54-year-old homeless man accused of fatally stabbing another homeless man in Dallas' tent city Tuesday evening. [[369096161,C]]

Dallas police said they responded to a stabbing call in tent city in the 2600 block of Hickory Street at about 5:55 p.m. and found a man, who appeared to be about 55 years old, dead.

Witnesses told police that Bennie Charles Valentine grabbed 43-year-old Erica Halley during an argument. The victim tried to separate the two of them and was then stabbed stabbed multiple times with a knife by Valentine.

Police said Valentine also cut Halley when she intervened. Halley was transported to a hospital with injuries that were not life threatening.

When officers arrived, police said Valentine told them he stabbed the victim. Police took Valentine to headquarters where he admitted to cutting both victims.

Police said Valentine remains in the Dallas County Jail on charges of murder and aggravated assault. His bond was set at $500,000.

The victim has not yet been identified.
