The Highland Park Independent School District Board of Trustees unanimously approved Dr. Tom Trigg as the district's new superintendent of schools at a meeting on Monday.
According to Trigg's new four-year contract with the district, his annual salary will be $325,000, which includes a $5,000 stipend because he holds a doctoral degree.
In addition to his yearly salary, Trigg will receive a $1,000 per month auto allowance and a $150 per month technology and communications allowance.
"Dr. Trigg is a visionary leader in the educational field, and he has earned an outstanding national reputation," HPISD School Board President Joe Taylor said. "The Board of Trustees is looking forward to working with him to build on HPISD's tradition of academic excellence and innovative learning opportunities for our students."
Trigg served as superintendent at Blue Valley Schools in Overland Park, Kansas, for 11 years. Before being promoted to superintendent, he served a assistant superintendent of administrative services for eight years.
He was also assistant superintendent and high school principal in Gardner Edgerton Antioch School District in Gardner, Kansas, and a mathematics instructor and athletic coach in Shawnee Mission School District in Overland Park, Kansas.
Trigg received his doctorate from the University of Kansas, his master's degree in educational administration from Emporia State University and his bachelor's degree in mathematics and physical education from Ottawa University.

Trigg is the eighth superintendent in Highland Park ISD's 101-year history. He is set to assume the role full-time July 27.
