Opponents of a plan to build a high-speed train between Dallas and Houston are gearing up for a legal fight.
"Texans Against High-Speed Rail" announced a partnership with The Beckham Group, a Dallas law firm that will defend the property rights of landowners who may be affected by the project.
"Texas landowners and taxpayers should not have to bear the devastation this unneeded project would bring to our state," said attorney Blake Beckham.
The 240-mile rail line would use existing Japanese bullet train technology. The trip between Texas' two largest cities would take just 90 minutes. Texas Central Partners is the private company that would build the project.
Texas Central responded to the opponents' latest move with a statement that reads, in part: "We are encouraged by our ongoing work with landowners along the corridor and the growing support to bring this historic project to the state and the communities it will serve."
Texas Central has said it hopes to start construction on the high-speed rail line as soon as 2017.
