Hail Damages Thousands of Cars in Plano

North Texans are cleaning up from Friday night’s devastating hail storms.

Hail damaged homes and shattered windows across parts of North Texas.

In Plano, they also put dents in thousands of cars, some of them never even driven.

Saturday, instead of selling cars, workers at Subaru of Plano spent the day moving them indoors.

Hail crushed windows and dented so many cars, the dealership was unable to sell them Saturday, a day they had planned an Earth Day celebration.

“You can't trust mother nature obviously,” said general manager Ronnie Cohen.

Cohen says all 400 cars on the lot are damaged in some shape or form.

“Tears, and not tears of joy,” he said. “I mean everything was ruined.”

Raking up instead of raking in the sales, dealerships are in a holding pattern until insurance companies can assess the damage.

Some will be resold and others at Huffines Hyundai Plano totaled out.

“When I drove up I said wow,” explained the store’s general manager Roosevelt May.

Golfball-sized hail left pock marks and crushed sunroofs. To May, it’s par for the course this time of year.

“It’s just kind of part of living in North Texas. We know we're going to have hail the question is how big? How bad is it going to be when it hits?” May said.

The hits keep coming.

Dealerships were dealt a similar blow last year.

“It’s actually worse than it is last year,” Cohen said.

The silver lining: Discounts for customers once cars are back on the market.

Insurance adjusters are expected to be out bright and early Monday morning.

Cars could go on sale by Monday afternoon. Some are expected to be discounted by as much as $15,000.
