Habitat for Humanity Builds in Sundance Square

If you hear hammering in downtown Fort Worth on Tuesday you do not need to check your hearing. A home is currently being built in the middle of Sundance Square.

Trinity Habitat for Humanity and XTO Energy have teamed up to build this new home for Mary Myers and her four granddaughters.

"I couldn't believe it," said Myers. "I sat there after I got off the phone with the lady who called me, and I just sat there, so I couldn't believe it. The girls got home from school and I told them. I still couldn’t believe it."

The home being built will not stay in Sundance Square. When it is partially complete it will be moved to its permanent position on Greenlee Avenue in Fort Worth.

"We will have the walls up, and you will be able to see the layout of the house," said Trinity Habitat for Humanity spokesperson Lauren Harris.

The home will have three bedrooms.

They have been building homes in the middle of downtown Fort Worth since 2009.

"It's a good opportunity for people in the community to see what a Habitat for Humanity house looks like and get some information about what we do," said Trinity Habitat for Humanity spokesperson Lauren Harris.

Myers says it means a lot to have a home of her own.

"A place we can call our own," said Myers. "Not to have to worry about their safety and the conditions of the place we are living in."

Volunteers will be building in Sundance Square until Sunday.

"I want to thank everyone who is helping me," added Myers. "I really appreciate it more than they will ever know."

The entire home should be complete in six months.
