Man, Stepson Dead in Lewisville Standoff

Lewisville police say a gunman who fatally shot his stepson held off law officers for hours overnight Thursday before killing himself.

At about 7:30 p.m. Thursday, a woman called Lewisville police saying her son, 24-year-old David Amonett, had been shot by his stepfather and she feared he was dead. The woman was inside the home at the time of the shooting and was permitted to leave the residence by her armed husband, 48-year-old Daniel Peshak, police said.

Powell said Peshak held law officers at bay for about seven hours, during which they had communication with the man who indicated he intended to give him self up to police.

At about 2:30 a.m. Friday however, officers reported seeing a muzzle flash accompanied by the sound of a gunshot come from inside the home. Officers entered the house, first with a robot and then later with SWAT officers and found Peshak dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Amonett's body was also found inside the home.

Police are trying to determine what prompted the deadly incident.
