Gun Found in Binder of 15-Year-Old High School Student in Arlington

An Arlington teen is in a juvenile detention center after hiding a loaded gun in his binder

Arlington police say they found a gun hidden in the binder of a 15-year-old student at Sam Houston High school Thursday.

School Resource Officers at the school received a tip that the teen brought a gun to school in his backpack, according to Christopher Cook of the Arlington Police Department.

Cook said the school officers quickly found and isolated the teen. After searching his backpack, they found a handgun and ammunition located in one of his binders.

The teen was taken into custody for the third-degree felony and could be charged with taking a weapon in a place where prohibited. The teen was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center, Cook said.

He added that police are unsure of his motive for bringing the gun to school.

Arlington ISD is advising parents Thursday night and Friday as well.
