The grandson of a Rains County woman found dead Wednesday from an apparent gunshot wound to her chest has been arrested in connection with her murder.
Police said the woman, 78-year-old Mattie Couch, was found inside her home by her son at about 3 p.m. Wednesday. The woman had been shot in the chest with a shotgun, officials said.
A man was spotted near the home running into the woods, police said. Rains County deputies, a Department of Public Safety heliocpter and the Texas Rangers Special Response Team searched the area and used an infrared camera to to find 33-year-old Brandon Paul Couch hiding in the woods.
Rains County Sheriff David Traylor said Couch has been charged with capital murder in connection with his grandmother's death.
Investigators have not yet revealed a motive.
