Grand Prairie to Reopen Parks, Beaches at Joe Pool Lake

The City of Grand Prairie say water levels from flooding rain earlier this summer have receded enough to allow part of the parks at Joe Pool Lake to reopen.

Officials said Friday they'll reopen Lynn Creek Park picnic sites and swim beach to the public at 6 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, along with Loyd Park camping sites, swim beach and boat ramp.

Loyd Park will be the first boat ramp to open this summer on Joe Pool Lake and the boat ramp at Lynn Creek will remain closed for another week, until Aug. 29.

The Lloyd Park area was up to 16 feet above normal at one point, which Grand Prairie Parks, Arts & Recreation Department Duane Strawn said was about the worst possible time of the year.

"We have a great amenity here in Grand Prairie, and for it to be closed down during our season it is very, very hard on everyone," he said.

Marinas on the lake will remain closed and no boat fuel will be available.
