Grand Prairie Search Briefly Causes Evacuations

Late Sunday afternoon, police cleared the scene on the 3000 block of Commodore Drive in Grand Prairie after officers staked out an apartment in the area.

At 12:30 p.m., the Grand Prairie Police Department received a call about a man with a loaded gun in a neighborhood just east of Commodore Drive.

When police arrived and spotted the man, he took off.  Officers ran after him and saw him go into a residence at the Hunters Cove Apartments.

Nearby, officers recovered a weapon they believe to be the one the man was carrying.

As a precautionary measure, about 20 people in surrounding apartments were evacuated.

Just before 5 p.m., police entered the apartment, but the man was not inside.
