Grand Prairie PD Investigating Fatal Crash on I-30

Grand Prairie police are investigating a crash on I-30 that killed three people and hospitalized the driver.

Demitri Gomez was driving a Honda Civic on westbound I-30 on Friday, August 11, when he lost control of the car near the Belt Line exit ramp, according to reports. The car rotated sideways and collided with a concrete light pole between the freeway and the off-ramp.

According to Grand Prairie's police department: Monica Lopez, 29, died at the scene of the crash; Alexxia Gomez, 4, and Armani Gomez, 3, died from injuries sustained from the crash in the hospital.

The children were in the back seat, fasted into regular seat belts, according to reports, but were not secured in child seats.

Demitri Gomez was taken to Methodist Dallas Medical Center, where he is listed in serious but stable condition, according to reports. Police say alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash and Demitri Gomez will be charged with three counts of intoxication manslaughter, pending toxicology results.

This is the ninth fatal collision in Grand Prairie this year.
