Grand Jury Indicts Former Day Care Owner

A grand jury has indicted a 49-year-old Denton woman with filing a false report to police after a baby was found unconscious at her day care center and later died.

Debra Turney is accused of giving the wrong information to police involving four-month-old Sophia Worsham. The baby died after being found unconscious at Turney's home-based day care center in January.

Denton County criminal court records say Turney was indicted on a Nov. 5 misdemeanor charge that accused her of giving police the wrong number of children that were in her day care, 2 Kool 4 School Kids Club, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported Tuesday.

Turney's attorney, Earl Dobson, says his client has since given up her day care license.
