Gov. Perry to Address West Benefit Dinner

Saturday's event begins at 2 p.m.

Gov. Rick Perry is scheduled to speak at a benefit dinner in West, the tiny town rocked by an April plant explosion.

Perry will appear Saturday afternoon at the West Disaster Benefit Czech Dinner and Dance. The event benefits the West Long-Term Recovery Fund, which is raising money and gathering volunteers to help with the rebuilding of the town.

Perry has pressed President Barack Obama and federal officials to reconsider their denial of major emergency aid to West, where 15 people died in an April 17 fertilizer plant blast.

While rebuilding continues, residents are grappling with thousands of dollars in unexpected costs and uncertainty about when they can return to West. The town and schools are millions of dollars short in their efforts to get back to normal.
