Gov. Perry Addresses Conservative Summit in Dallas

Texas Gov. Rick Perry addressed a conservative summit on Friday in Dallas, and the topic quickly turned to national politics.

"We need to make Washington as inconsequential in our lives as we can," said Perry during his remarks at the Defending the American Dream Summit.

Perry touched on getting more conservatives in office as well as border security.

And the governor called out President Barack Obama for what Perry said is a lack of leadership.

"In Texas, we actually do pretty well without Washington's advice," said Perry.

Perry, who has continued to travel to early primary voting states like New Hampshire and South Carolina in recent days, did not mention the two indictments of abuse of power he is facing in Travis County.

Sounding very much like a potential presidential candidate, Perry ended his speech Friday with a message to the country.

"My fellow Americans, this is our country. Let's restore its dreams. Let's chart its new destiny. Let's make it worthy of all those who have sacrificed and all those who are to come. God bless you, and God bless America," said Perry.
